Backstage With Horse Trade Theater Group

Paper Magazine's Tom Murrin interviews Erez Ziv, Founder and Managing Director of Horse Trade Theater Group.

"When you think of Broadway theater impresarios, classic names like Shubert or Nederlander come to mind. But in the off-off-Broadway world, you're more likely to hear about Erez Ziv, who manages both The Red Room, The Kraine and the basement theater space at Under St. Mark's." (read more)

Die Roten Punkte

SPECIAL ENGAGEMENT!
ONLY THREE PERFORMANCES!
JANUARY 8-10

Berlin’s 'Prince and Princess of Punk', Otto and Astrid Rot are back for another North American tour to celebrate the release of their acclaimed Super Musikant CD - a ten-track high-energy feast of rock, studded with rich veins of rock 'n' roll. They're bringing their unique brand of rock ‘n’ roll to NYC and they want to push their rock in you. What are you waiting for? Rock Bang!

DIE ROTEN PUNKTE (The Red Dots) are a Berlin two-piece brother/sister rock act that have won worldwide acclaim for their last three albums. Much has been said in the international media about Otto and Astrid Rot’s strange brother/sister relationship. Compromising photos have appeared in newspapers showing both public and private affection. Astrid has a reputation for being a ‘party girl’, most famously coming to blows with Courtney Love in a New York City club. Otto continues to fuel his reputation as the newest ‘Prince of Punk’. His stage presence and live energy has been described as “all five of The Hives trapped in a lipstick-smeared Pete Townsend”.

The 'Best Band In The World' are playing a special, limited engagement with Horse Trade Theater Group January 8-10, Thursday through Saturday at 8pm @ UNDER St. Marks (94 St. Marks Place between 1st and A). The writing, acting, directing, and sound design are all top notch and this play is totally different from anything else thats out there right now. They close tomorrow but if you have the time to check it out, do yourself a favor and GO!

An expose not for the faint of heart, VICE GIRL CONFIDENTIAL uncovers the grime and grit plaguing the seedy streets of 1950s Gotham. Only one man, D.A. Walter Slade, can stand up to vice-racket kingpin Duke Craigie—that is, if he can shake off his yen for Stella Fontaine (played by Todd Michael), the madam of New York’s most infamous brothel.

(RE:) DIRECTIONS THEATRE COMPANY
PRESENTS
AS WE SPEAK

By John Patrick Bay, Directed by Tom Berger

November 7-10, 13 - 16, & 20 - 22 at 8pm, and November 15, 22, & 23 at 3pm at the 14th Street Y Theatre (344 E. 14th Street between 1st and 2nd Ave)

“This is not the time to question authority. You are either with America, or you are not.” In a post-9/11, post-Katrina world full of the politics of fear and doctrines of intolerance and hate, what are we willing to sacrifice for our own sense of security? What liberties are we willing to give up so we can go to bed at night? Inspired by Sinclair Lewis’ classic It Can’t Happen Here , AS WE SPEAK shows the drastic effects on the average American if what eventually emerges as a fascist dictatorship legally wins the American Presidency. Commissioned by RTC, AS WE SPEAK takes a look at what could happen in an America stripped of her civil liberties and the dangers of too much power in the wrong hands.

Tickets ($18, $13 students) are available online at www.SmartTix.com or by calling 212-868-4444.

A Dynamite Double-Feature! Two Tales of Spine Tingling Insanity!
SOMETHING WEIRD… IN THE RED ROOM
Directed & Choreographed by Rachel Klein

October 7 - 31, Tuesdays at 8pm & Fridays at 10:30pm in The Red Room (85 E. 4th Street between 2nd Ave and Bowery)

Sir Sheever by Benjamin Spiro, is a creepy, comedic one act about a demented heiress who forms her own twisted Addams Family from four department store mannequins. When an intruder unwittingly becomes her new playmate, it is only a matter of time before tea parties and temper tantrums become unbearable for the living. Meanwhile, the mannequins are a little livelier than they ought to be, and they want to play a few games of their own. There’s no telling what sinister plans might hide behind these glassy eyes. They’re the kind of dolls that you’ll want to pull to pieces.

Aenigma by Sean Gill, pendulates between the absurdly comic and the genuinely disturbing as two show-biz sisters must cope with a series of increasingly appalling events which eventually take a turn for the fantastic. Told with an inventive flashback structure which incorporates multiple points-of-view and even the live action staging of a videotape playback, Aenigma delights in literally and figuratively “twisted” storytelling.

Tickets ($18) are available by calling Smarttix at 212-868-4444 or online at www.smarttix.com
